Homeopathy is based on the idea that “like cures like.”
That is, if a substance causes a symptom in a healthy person, giving the person a very small amount of the same substance may cure the symptoms. A homeopathic remedy enhances the body's normal healing and self-regulatory processes.
A homeopathic health practitioner (homeopath) uses liquid mixtures (solutions) or pellets containing only a little of an active ingredient (usually a plant, mineral or animal) for treatment of disease. These are known as highly diluted or "potentiated" substances. Homeopaths currently use 2000 to 3000 remedies.
Homeopathy is a system based on three principles:
• Like cures like
For example, if the symptoms of your cold are similar to poisoning by mercury, then mercury would be your homeopathic remedy.
• Minimal Dose
The remedy is taken in an extremely dilute form; normally one part of the remedy to around 1,000,000,000,000 parts of water.
• The Single Remedy
No matter how many symptoms are experienced, only one remedy is taken, and that remedy will be aimed at all those symptoms. |
